Barnsley Arrest In Internet Race Hate Investigation

Thursday April 19 2012

COUNTER-TERRORIST police have raided a property in Barnsley and arrested one local man amid an investigation into race hate.

The 21-year-old man was taken in for questioning on Thursday morning (April 19) on suspicion of publishing comments on social media sites to encourage racial hatred. He is currently being questioned in a local police station.

A property on Monument Drive, Brierley, was raided by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit in a bid to gather evidence - so far a range of items like computers, laptops and mobile phones have been seized.

It is part of a wider investigation by counter-terrorist officers and in the swoop earlier properties in Tyneside, Birkenhead, Barnsley, County Durham and Holloway, north London were raided.

Also arrested were a 46-year-old in County Durham, an 18-year-man in Birkenhead, Merseyside, and a 56-year-old Holloway, London.

A spokesman for the team said: "Five men were arrested on suspicion of offences under the Public Order Act this morning.

"All were detained on suspicion of publishing or distributing written material which
may stir up racial hatred. This investigation relates to posts made on social networking sites."

You just want freedom to spout you vile lies and hatred, we don't stand for that in this country, respect our laws or go live elsewhere.

Freedom of speech is like any freedom - it comes at a price. We can all say and do what we want but we are ultimately responsible for the consequences of our actions. It's called "being grown up".
