City Reach Building To Be Finished

Tuesday October 14 2014

A PART-BUILT apartment complex will be finished next year - almost six years since work came to an abrupt end.

The City Reach building will be made into 86 apartments, with work expected to be finished in "nine to 11 months' time".

The concrete skeleton - which was conceived as a striking new addition to the Barnsley skyline when the development was given planning permission almost seven years ago - sold for £375,000 at auction in October.

The development, near Morrisons, was abandoned at the height of the recession but bought by Superior Living Limited.

"It has become a bit of an eyesore and a a beacon for drug users so to have it finished will tidy up that area and make it better," said Coun Doug Birkinshaw.

"If it's finished it will give us another 80 to 100 homes in the town centre area which has got to be good prosperity for the town."

I would assume they will go to those that pay the rent / purchase price. I am not sure that they will be social housing?

If a company has bought the building, they will be private. About time it was finished IMO.

@bananas I'm guessing they will be SOLD to hard working people who can afford the mortgages.
I can assume from the fact the concept of mortgages are alien to you and you believe housing is "allocated" you have no issue living in social housing but take issue with others that do?

I don't care who they go to as long as they are finished and it gives local people a chance of a home time Barnsley put Barnsley folk first and looked after there own for a change, and make affordable homes and mortgages people can afford when working full time
