Hirsty Thanks Fans For 'Overwhelming' Support

Tuesday October 14 2014

STEPHANIE Hirst has thanked her fans for the 'overwhelming' support she has received in the last few days.

Formerly Simon, the popular radio host announced that she is to undergo surgery to become a woman to BBC Radio 5 Live's Stephen Nolan.

The 39-year-old, from Dodworth, has received thousands of posts on her Facebook page from fans across the world, including friend and former Radio 1 host Chris Moyles

He said: "My friend of many years came out as transgender. My friend Simon is now my friend Stephanie. To see how happy she is is just a lovely, wonderful thing.

"Happiness is something that shouldn't be underestimated and finally, after many years, my lovely friend can now look forward to many more years of happiness being the person she's always wanted to be."

Stephanie told fans on her Facebook page: "I'm overwhelmed at the public's reaction of my news I've shared. That says so much about how wonderful humanity is.

"Thank you everyone for all your support. I want to reply to every message that comes in, but I haven't been able to find enough hours in the last few days to do so!

"I'm sat here reading every message of support. Please, if you feel like you desperately need to change something in your life, and you have a fear of doing so, do it! My transition has proved that anything is possible to us all."
