A BARNSLEY Hospital volunteer has been awarded for 35 years' service.

Kevin Cole, one of the longest-service volunteers at the hospital, has presented shows on its in-house radio station.

He started volunteering back in 1979 when the studios were based in the town centre and continued to volunteer when it moved on to the hospital site.

Kevin, who now hosts two weekly shows, plays country music on Thursday evenings and patients' requests on Saturday mornings.

"Once I started at the hospital I liked it that much that I stayed," he said. "I love it here - I don’t think they’ll ever get rid of me now!"

James Whitehead, voluntary services manager, added: "Kevin is a credit to the hospital. I just want to say congratulations and thank you to Kevin on behalf of the trust."
