Ex-Deputy Criticises Wright's Decision To Stay

TRACEY Cheetham has criticised Shaun Wright's decision not to stand down in the the wake of the Rotherham child abuse scandal.

Tracey, who was the beleaguered police and crime commissioner's deputy, urged him to 'do the right thing' and resign in her own resignation letter.

A report found at least 1,400 children in Rotherham were sexually exploited between 1997 and 2013, with Wright being in charge of children's services at Rotherham Council from 2005 to 2010.

He has resigned from the Labour Party but so far has refused to leave his £85,000-a-year post as commissioner.

Tracey, of Royston, also a Barnsley councillor, wrote in her letter: "I cannot be clearer - it is my absolute belief that your position is untenable.

"Your refusal to stand down as police and crime commissioner places unacceptable pressure on those of us who have no historic links to events in Rotherham.

"I once again urge you to do the right thing and resign."

Yes Mr Wright should stand down. He not only let those kids down big time he also appears to be suffering from acute amnesia, answering key questions with......... “I don’t recall”

I’ve said this before.......... it’s the oldest excuse in the book.

I hope, however, that they are not holding Mr Wright up as a sacrificial lamb. There are others who need to be brought to account and the people preying on these poor children need to be found and prosecuted.

We in Barnsley can’t afford to be complacent about this very disturbing situation in Rotherham, we are not that far away.

Tracey cheetham can talk they were all in each others pockets before the scandal, 45k a year for a prt time post. AND they all knew about his past record, i know i did. She has to distance herself now because of her mp husband tim cheethams position, however tim cheetham steve Houghton, miller and the rest all campaigned to get this clown in knowing hed left rotherham under a dark cloud. And now noone has the power to sack hm!!! You can't make it up Labour is a joke in this part of the country and im a former supporter

@ Ray, Your comments are incorrect, Tim Cheetham is NOT a MP, he is a Ward Councillor for Royston....Dan Jarvis is the MP......simples.

It doesn't detract from the rest of his comments, which are well put.

Yes exactly, his exit strategy is to sit back and wait for the deal.

With the number of peers and mp been uncovered as pedophiles maybe they thought it was "multiculturalism in action "

Perhaps he simply doesn't know right from wrong. Or what morality is.
Always great qualities to have in a Police and Crime Commissioner I feel.

How come nobody is asking for senior police officers to step down too?

I'm thinking same Rog. Mind you, there another way to look at it. While ever Shaun Wright clings on the matter will stay in the public eye. I reckon if and when he goes the matter will be allowed to drop quiet. While ever he's in office the questions and enquiries will keep going. There are more people involved not just Shaun Wright, they all need to be weedled out and brought to book. Evidently there's madness at Rotherham at the moment. The town is on lockdown and the police stations shut and being protected. What a shameful carry on these blind eyes have caused!

Search the web for South Yorkshire PCC, register on the web site and send an email. He's a public official accessible for you as members of the public in South Yorkshire to contact, why not drop him a line?
