Pub's Future Remains In Doubt

Thursday September 11 2014

A PUB may still be demolished to make way for a new supermarket - despite a delay in the planning process.

Almost 1,000 people signed a petition to stop the closure of The King's Head at Mapplewell, with the Darton Lane site earmarked for a Sainsbury's Local store.

Members of Barnsley Council's planning board have concerns about the proposed access to the site and will visit the pub, owned by Punch Taverns, before making a decision.

Of course it's going to become a supermarket, pubs in the past were the hub of the community's. Now it's the supermarkets, if pubs don't sell food it's against the wall for them.

bring on the sainsburys this pub is an eye sore , plus the scummy parents that leave their kids in the beer garden next to the main road is an accident waiting to happen.

@fredrick linguine - Yes of course. Scummy parents leaving their kids in the beer garden. I bet they are all claiming benefits too. Those folk have huge plasma TV's and holiday in Spain three times a year. If you are on benefits you get a free BMW too. Tis true.

Thank you the mayor for supporting those on benefits. Not all people that claims benefits are scum. My family were extremly hard working until my Dad became chronically ill in 2009 to the point of almost loosing him :( . He hates being on benefits and there's nothing they can do despite wanting to work as that's all he's ever done since leaving school. Yeah, I can understand some people are on benefits for wrong reasons and do nothing with their lives but there are genuine people out there that need those benefits for the right reasons. If I could make my Dad better again, he'd go to work in the morning but will never happen for him and its upsetting to seeing him in his prime then to be basically shot down and he's going downhill everyday. Sorry for those who don't want to hear something like this but I can't sit here and have people slate others without thinking of what they're actually going through. Hope no offence is taken as I don't often say anything.

Dale. Say what you want mate. This is a free speech thing. I symlathise with you. People shouldnt tar everyone with the same brush. There has alawys been peopl claiming. Since i left school it was the same. I have always worked. Even at an early age. I did the paper rounds. The milk rounds etc. its awful being on the dole. I was put on the dole twice. By this evil tory govt. which i truly deeply despise !!! Im working now and hope to remain that way. Peopl should have the freedom in my view. Benefit claimers get certain things i agree but it should be their choice personally i didnt want that road i always want to work i like a pint. Good holidays etc. thats my choice.
