Kendray Man Guilty Of Benefit Fraud

Monday April 2 2012

A KENDRAY man has plead guilty to benefit fraud after admitting he was struggling to pay his mortgage.

Geoffrey Greenwood, 71 of Cypress Road, claimed more than £2,338 of council tax benefits after he failed to inform the council that his wife was working.

Mr Greenwood was interviewed under caution by Barnsley Council investigation officers and said he had made a conscious decision to claim council tax benefit and not to declare his wife’s wages. He said he was struggling to pay his mortgage and then realised he was “in too deep”.

He appeared before Barnsley Magistrates Court on March 22 and admitted that he had received council tax benefit he was not entitled to.

He was sentenced to a 12 month Community Order with 100 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay a £200 contribution to court costs.

The man is 71 !!!!! How can he do community work, he's retired. Now he was in the wrong to do the crime but this is going to happen more because of the government cut backs and prices going up on everything! WHAT DO THEY EXPECT! GRRRR!!!!!

I Hope people agree with me.

If he didn't fraudulently claim it he would not have to pay any court costs.

I could'nt have said it better myself!! The government in this country cannot be trusted to look after their own that's why so many resort to to this kind of thing. Its time they opened their eyes and saw the big picture but they're too busy lining their own pockets!!!
