A NEW Tesco which is due to open in the coming weeks has created 121 jobs.

The existing Tesco Express on West Street, Hoyland, will close when the new superstore opens on Market Street, with some staff transferring to the giant 'eco-store'.

People from a broad range of previous careers have been employed at the superstore including a former teacher, midwife, lifeguard - and even a psychic.

Manager Matthew Pickthall and his senior management team conducted 312 interviews.

He said: "We wanted to ensure that we recruited the best team possible for our new store in Hoyland so we spent a lot of time working with the local community to fill the new roles."

The store will be open from 7am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

This stinks employing people that already have decent jobs and then u cant employ people that actually live close and need a job priorites all wrong my partner saw this opportunity to get a job there when planning started for it he asked jobcentre for months & months about it all he kept getting told was keep looking and waiting for application forms until he went end of last month to get told all jobs was took! Jobcentres useless nag at folk that try to get a job and when they show intrest let em down big time ridiculous

To jane if he was looking hard enough he would have been on the tesco website where they were advertising there not relying on others to give them information

Dear annon he has been looking on there website there has been nothing on there obviously TESCO has been more intrested in employing people with transport and bringing in others from there other tescos ans wasnt even intending on setting others on my brother also applied for this job and even hes been told they only let about 16 ppl on and rest are from there other stores so stop saying my partners lazy and getting other people to do it because he wasnt! Thankyou

Also if people wish to move jobs then that is upto them. If unemployed people apply and show the correct skills and attitude then they would have been employed. Lambasting someone for changing career isnt the way forward. And i know of alot of people that have jobs there and live in hoyland. As an eco store im sure that tesco would prefer people to be walking to work

My partner applied for every single job, she's had experience in some of the rolls, would take her about 20mins to walk, been unemployed for a few years but wasn't even offered the chance of an interview so god only knows what you have to do to get a job with them. Maybe speak in a foreign language maybe

With regards to setting people on from other stores. the 1 near the school is to be closed so all the people there would have been made redundant. So it is only fair that if they wish then they should get given priority to get the same job at the new store which is less than 2 miles away. Every company has to offer them this. B & Q will be offering there staff at stairfoot opertunities to move to cortonwood etc. Likewise sainsburys has said that any 1 from b&q will get a job at the new store

Reply Posted by Red Optimist on Thursday September 4 2014 at 19:44
I don't think Sainsburys have said that.

You find most recruitment inc. agencies, only contact people who have been working currently; if someone has been out of work for over a year they are immediately marked as maybe unreliable etc.
It happens all over the UK, its just one of those things.
Also all companies have to advertise in house before out sourcing.

No where on the article does it say that the people have quit their jobs to work at the new resource so why are you saying it stinks? Read it properly before you make assumptions.

Tsc is now know as webhelp they are having a open day this coming Tuesday 9th between 5 pmsl and 9 PM if anyone is interested in customer service and sales call centre work. I applied for the new tesco as very near to where I live and heard nothing from them. I have experience in customer service both face to face and over the phone. Luck of the draw I suppose

@worsborough, Get stuck into education then and give yourself a fighting chance. Don't be a defeatist mate.

Tesco got a job strait away, went for an interview within days of applying for a vacancy. Any body who really stands out at the interview will stand a really good chance, so go smartly dressed and approach the job with confidence, Oh yes good luck

And it feels good eh @the boss? Come on @worsborough,open your mind and books, you can do it! Give it your best shot.

Most of the people on here need to get a basic education before they think of applying for any type of job. Were you absent when they were teaching spelling?

Where do you think you are red optimist, spelling, he thinks he's at hogwarts. What a Harry potter you are Richard.

@ere didn't fill out my application form by phone. So don't think that was the issue. No need to be rude and skittish. Just posted the hope of a job on here for People who are actually looking for work. I have a job and have always worked since I left school at 16. Some people aren't that lucky. Like I said luck of the draw. Was just looking for something closer to home.

Ive worked with the company for just over 2 years in various positions. To those of you mentioning having difficulty finding application forms... Our equal opportunities polocy prevents us from using application methods other than online. This is tp do with eliminating prejudice against tge aesthetic of them ie shoddy handwriting or illegibiliy. Only in extreme circumstances do we use paper forms, such as when we're struggling to fill a role

@tesco worker so half of you can't read, and the other half can't write, fills me with in trepidation.

People on here moaning that they didn't get an interview, have been out of work for x amount of years etc. get off your back sides and start looking for jobs! There are hundreds of unskilled jobs in the area, call centres, other large supermarkets, Meadowhall and loads of others. If you were that bothered about working at this particular store then keep an eye on the tesco website. I'm sure out of 121 personnel at the new store some will either not make the grade or dislike the job, so in a couple of months time I would expect to see further jobs there! That's the problem with the benefits culture, people unwilling to do anything about their situation, then blaming everyone else.

Applied for 3 different jobs not heard a whisper...be nice to get some feed back as to why...and I'm 5 mins away from the store
