Thousands Of Bin Collections Missed In Barnsley

Thursday August 21 2014

MORE than 5,000 bin collections have been missed in Barnsley.

A report measuring the council's performance showed 5,338 were missed in the first quarter of the authority's 2014/15 plan, although the figure is considered "artificially high" due to the new recycling scheme.

The report said: "The significant increase in the number is a direct result of the changes made to the recycling services.

"The issues have been addressed and number should return to normal during the second and third quarters."

Funnily enough Sam, I only live a couple of miles from Mr Miller and you're right our bins have not been missed at all since the changes. Apart from the bad weather at the beginning of the year which was one recycling bin. We also got our new bins delivered first as well.

I'm not gloating just confirming your point.

Me too Ray, don't think they have ever missed mine.

If they supplied the rest of the "larger bins they were promising then it wouldn't take so long at our house.
Monthly collections are a joke.
We had our original brown bin and then 11 poly bags with cans and bottles in them.
They had to empty the bin and then empty the bags into the bin twice and then onto truck as health and safety wouldn't allow the bags to be emptied directly.
Been waiting now for months for larger bins.

Hey Steve! Sounds like party night every night at your place. Brown bin and 11 bags? Hic!HIC!! lol

I am not sure if this helps, but you can go to Smithies Site and collect a larger brown bin (obviously if you have the transport). They had loads in stock when we went several weeks ago now.

Still waiting for new bins, have a green bin full of cardboard & paper (we live in flats and the only bins people have are black and green - we produce no garden waste).

If the majority of people whent out to vote instead of the usual 35% it might be different but they never will

When was the last time - or first time - you saw a councillor from any party collect a bin? Get rid of this lot of councillors and replace them with a new bunch but your bins will still be emptied by the same bin collection crew.

Plus it's not helped they all gone on a go slow due to them having job and knock stopped. They worked out that if they worked the hours they should do that they could get round the rounds with a bin team less.

My blood is boiling!

Why do you keep voting them in Barnsley! Houghton, Miller and co get away with murder.

Reply Posted by Guido fawkes on Saturday August 23 2014 at 08:24
That's the point Fred people don't vote because they believe who ever is in power nothing is going to change, what happens when no one votes at all may be that's a way to change things as regards bmbc just don't vote anyone

Reply Posted by Tom on Monday August 25 2014 at 03:29
Have complained multiple times and have been promised delivery. I lack transport to collect the bins. If I had transport I would collect them. I'd do it on the bus if the bus would let you take a bin on board.

If 2 of the donkeys on Skegness beach ,who are called Dixie and Pixey, were on the ballot paper standing as Labour Barnsley Councillors,Labour supporters would vote them in

Reply Posted by Tom on Monday August 25 2014 at 03:33
BIG have had councillors elected, haven't the BNP had councillors elected too? And the Tories. And UKIP look likely to get some in the next election.

Labour voters are dying off in Barnsley and elsewhere, Tory voters are dying off too. All supporters of the three main parties are dying off. The membership of the big three political parties has collapsed. The Tory party lost over half its members in the last year alone, and has lost over 90% of it's members in the past 50 years.

People have died for the right to vote. For gods sake. What a mess were in

Reply Posted by Tom on Monday August 25 2014 at 03:36
At the ballot box you tend to get a choice of rentier. Be they, red, blue, yellow or purple. There are alternatives like the Greens and new parties like the TUSC, but people haven;t begun to vote for them in big enough numbers yet. Some seats aren't even contested, there is no choice for some citizens.

One day the people of Barnsley will wake up (hopefully) and vote for people other than the Labour Party representatives.

Our grey bin collection was missed for 4 weeks. I lodged an official complaint and did receive a phone call from the manager. An apology was offered and he explained their new process for collecting bins had failed and they had gone back to the drawing board. The problem is the issues are continuing now a month later. Often bins in our area have to be left out several days or so to be collected, meaning pathways are littered with bins.
