Darfield Pub Reopened By Locals

Thursday March 29 2012

Drinks Drinks

A LOCAL couple have revamped and reopened a pub in Darfield.

Steve and Paula Gibbons met in Darfield 20 years ago and Paula's parents used to run The Longbow. They returned to take over the Cross Keys pub on Church Street and - although it has been refurbished - some parts of its heritage have been kept.

The collection of keys from its history and a plaque in memorial of regular customer Barry Bell who sat in the same corner with his pint for years.

Paula said: "We both love it here and are glad to be back to the area. We want to bring back the oomph to Darfield."

I'm so glad The Longbow has been re-opened, although i didn't live in Darfield, my Grandparents did. I have had many a happy night sat outside with a drink and crisps, in the summer with Nanan and Grandad. My Grandad used to collect glasses there, then he became the cellar man, his name was Harry Grimshaw. A few years ago, someone wrote an article(not sure which paper ?chronicle) and stated that Lonbow was haunted and it was my Grandad who did the haunting. Is this really true? Grandad would be happy to know it has re-opened:)
