Reds' League One Campaign Starts With Defeat

DALE Jennings was sent off on the opening day of the season for the second year in a row as Barnsley lost 1-0 to Crawley on Saturday.

Jennings - who had been Barnsley's main threat - saw red after reacting angrily after he was on the receiving end of a late challenge.

Barnsley had started well in the relatively even game, before Crawley striker Izale McLeod stole the three points with a winner in the 81st minute.

Once the Reds had gone behind, their 10 men offered little threat until stoppage time when substitute Nana Boakye-Yiadom glanced a header wide.

Wilson called for his side to be more composed in the final third but wants patience from his young side.

"I don't think we worked their goalkeeper enough," he said. "We lacked composure in the final third.

"We have to make sure in the upcoming games we have that composure in place because that can be the difference."
