Thief Locked Up For A Year

Wednesday August 6 2014

Barnsley Magistrates' Court Barnsley Magistrates' Court

A THIEF who targeted two elderly shoppers because he was "out of it" on a legal high has been jailed for a year.

Arran Cowles, 25, stole bags from women aged 79 and 75 as they shopped at Asda and Tesco, Barnsley Magistrates' Court was told.

The bag belonging to the 79-year-old had a ring given to her by her late husband which was of sentimental value, said Jayne Ormrod, prosecuting.

She said both victims had since had trouble sleeping. One of the women, who is undergoing treatment for skin cancer, said she felt like she had aged ten years overnight.

Mrs Ormrod said Cowles, of Richard Road, Athersley South, recalled little about either theft because he was "out of it" after taking a legal high.

Cowles also stole tobacco from a shop when a card had been declined.

So this low life 'recalls little of the theft'
He wasn't that ‘out of it’ ............he was alert enough to target the defenceless and take their property.

The oldest excuse going ...............'I can't remember'
He’s a selfish, uncaring coward.

My thoughts are with the two ladies, I hope they will eventually be able to put this behind them.

@chris in total agreement with your comment. Picked on the most vulnerable not some young person who could quite easily put up a fight for their possessions or a man doing his shopping. They use it now as an excuse to get a lighter sentence.

Simple saying .......can't do the time don't do the crime....

Good he's been been found guilty and sent to prison but how long for probably a few weeks, and he'll come out and do the same again. Justice system needs changing.

Arran Cowles will be out just after Christmas, but frail old ladies have fit young families. The sentence is really 6 months banged up plus how long looking over his shoulder? Then of course it's 2 families and if they are big families, perhaps several family member may wish to 'discuss' his actions.

Certainly more than 6 months.

'He was out of it and can remember little of what happened'...............strange that. He managed to target two elderly ladies..................hmmmmmm, very strange that he didn't target two stocky blokes in their steel cap boots and working clothes who could have given him a good hiding.
He truly is a coward. Hope both ladies on the mend.

guy fawkes..........sentences in English please? hard to tell what your point is but if you are sticking up for the criminal and not the victims then you too need a reality check.
