Motorists Warned About Road Delays

Thursday July 24 2014

MOTORISTS are being warned of major delays at one of the busiest roads heading into Barnsley town centre.

Yorkshire Water and Balfour Beatty are replacing 230 metres of water mains which run directly under Townend roundabout.

There will be lane and road closures on each of the entrance and exit roads to the roundabout. Closures will be kept to one exit or entrance at a time and diversions will be in place.

Mike Tunnicliffe, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: "We would like to apologise to residents, businesses and road users for the disruption this will cause and are working to keep this to a minimum."

The improvement works are expected to be completed early in October.

I wonder why Barnsley MBC chooses the warmest and busiest time of the year to lay tons of asphalt all over the borough.???

What a bizarre statement that is? What has that got to do with this story and what difference does it make if macadam is laid when the air temperature is 26c.

I agree hoyland. These roadworks are planned months in advance so they will have no real idea what the weather will be like. In any case roadworks on busy and traffic sensitive roads are put in place during school holidays to coincide with lower traffic flows. It has been advertised well in advance so plenty of warning to choose alternative routes etc.
