OUTREACH advice sessions offered by Barnsley's Citizen's Advice Bureau have been axed due to a lack of funding.

Barnsley CAB say it is the last week that it can offer the outreach services at the Romero Centre, Athersley, Wombwell Library and Thurnscoe Health Centre.

The project had previously been funded by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust but funding will only allow the sessions to last until March 31 and then will have to cease.

CAB spokesman Pat Heath said the service has helped over 800 people deal with over 1800 problems that they faced in their communities in the last year alone.

He said: “We are grateful to funders for helping us provide the service over the years. We have been looking for alternative funding sources but have been unsuccessful. It is ironic that whilst the Government talks about the importance of localism, services of this type are being withdrawn due to lack of funding.”

Alternatively sources of advice can be found via online or mobile
