THE Metrodome is celebrating its 25th anniversary on Saturday.

Hailed as a game-changer for the region’s economy and its sports and leisure provisions, the venue has seen many changes and developments since it first opened its doors back in 1989.

Operator BPL is marking the occasion with a birthday bash this Saturday, where visitors to Calypso Cove will receive a voucher with a range of prizes redeemable at the venue.

Families are encouraged to visit and enjoy the celebrations with spot prizes including family swims, bowling and food offers for The Hideout on poolside.

There will be a pool party in Calypso Cove from 12-4pm and a specially commissioned photograph board in reception so children and adults can create a memory of their visit to the venue.

"We wanted to offer a great family day out with lots of different activities to choose from," said facility manager Joni Millthorpe. "With the new photo board just like the ones you would find at the seaside, people can remember their special day and share their photos on social media."

Visitors are encouraged to send in their photographs to BPL's Facebook and Twitter pages for the chance to win a family swim and bowl.

Having helped to build the metronome I'm chuffed to bits on its success there was the usual sceptics who said it would fail but i am proud that I worked on a building that my grandchildren use every week well done Barnsley

Nice for barnsley what about the rest of the borough. Why was the pool at Wombwell never replaced. We are having to travel to Wath now they have a lovely pool and gym. This side of barnsley have nothing. All the money goes to Barnsley town centre.
