Firefighters Announce Next Strike Date

Friday July 4 2014

FIREFIGHTERS across South Yorkshire are to go on strike in a national day of action next week.

Thursday, July 10 has been chosen and it comes just three weeks after the last strike.

Employees are protesting against government changes to their pension scheme and job security fears for colleagues deemed unfit for the frontline.

"We are disappointed that more strike dates have been announced," a South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said.

"We are satisfied with the contingency arrangements which we had in place during previous strike periods, and will now be reviewing our arrangements in light of the new date.

"Our 999 response service will be severely reduced during any strike periods, so we call on people to take extra care to keep calls."

I fail to see why some public sector workers should have better benefits than others. There's one public purse, the more one group gets, the less others get.

Because they risk their lives to save the "others"

The public sector have been living in a dream world for years. They should look at private sectors wages and pensions to find out how well off they really are.

Rainbow........rather than whinging, get a job in the public sector......then you may have a slightly different opinion. They work hard and do jobs than you and me would never be able or willing to do.......just think about it before commenting.

Our public sector staff deserve our full support. They are taken for granted and work bloody hard. Where would we all be without them? They save lives and educate our children. They are only fighting for what they are entitled to doing they jobs they do. Would you risk your life every shift you work to save the lives of others or would you be able to teach a classroom of 30+ children? Let's support our public sector staff and stop whining about why they may get better benefits than private sector workers. They deserve every bit of it.
