A FOUR-WEEK programme aimed at Barnsley teenagers will see them taken on retreat and learn adventure sports as part of a government funded project.

Barnsley Football Club is one of 17 league clubs across the UK that has been given funding to fun the National Citizen Service scheme.

There are 90 places available for Barnsley students in Year 11 at school and the project - which starts in August - includes a one week residential trip to Essex, another to Kingswood, and two weeks project work at the club doing something for the community.

Organiser Chris Dolby said the trip is worth over £1,000 but will only cost parents £50 as it is subsidised. He added: "It's an amazing opportunity, they will be visiting London during the Olympics and doing all sorts of fun activites. It was absolutely brilliant last year - they did some things even I wouldn't have tried.

"We're just really keen to get the numbers in to make sure our community takes advantage of this scheme -
very few school leavers can leave school and walk into a job so this scheme looks to prepare them a bit to give the something to put on their CV and give them an opportunity to learn new skills."

If you'd like to take part, email chris.dolby@barnsleyfc.co.uk.
