Library Demolition To Start

Wednesday July 2 2014

Library Library

THE demolition of Barnsley Central Library and its neighbouring shops will get underway today.

Dismantling work has already begun inside, but work to topple the building will start today to make way for Barnsley College's new sixth form.

There will be a temporary road closure from Shambles Street to Church Lane on the weekends from July 19 to August 3 to enable the safe demolition.

It is scheduled to be flattened by August 22.

About get rid of a the 70s carbuncles that blight Barnsley, would prefer no college block but more of the pals garden which to me would welcome visitors to Barnsley more pleasingly than a college block.

Agree tis time to get rid of the ugly buildings and regenerate the Town-once the ugly market and old Council offices have gone too we can look forward to a vibrant Town centre. Shame the building contracts have gone to a Leeds firm building all the Barnsley College buildings so no "local" jobs there then?
Still good on the for the effort to build a modern centre that does not resemble 60's Russia
