Town Centre Streets To Be Refurbished

Friday June 20 2014

A SCHEME to refurbish streets in Barnsley town centre will start on June 30.

Eldon Street, Regent Street South, Hanson Street, Royal Street, Regent Street, Eastgate, Market Hill and Church Street's footpath will all benefit thanks to a significant funding contribution from the European Regional Development Fund programme.

It includes paving in natural Yorkstone and granite, new street lighting and new street furniture. Roads will also be resurfaced with improved crossing facilities provided.

The works, which will last approximately 11 months, continues the reinvigoration of Barnsley town centre.

Access to properties and businesses adjacent to the works will be maintained throughout the duration, although access may be restricted at times as work is carried out across business frontages.

Are you happy to see Barnsley town centre's streets being improved? Have your say below.

Oh goody, another 11 months trying to do a day's work to the tune of pneumatic drill and stihl saw. Entire towns have been built in less time than it has taken to lay 100 yards of this paving on church street.

More money to be spent on town centre it won't make any difference to the footfall. The ostrches at bmbc will never understand why would snyone want to visit a run down obsolete market town when nearby places are more attractive. Money would be better spent on improving outlying villages.

oh here they come....anything that helps improve the town center has to be negative doesn't it. Its about time we had the town center regenerated to being us up to date.

Damned if they do damned if they don't. They can hardly acquire European funding to improve walkways in Town Centre then spend it on road repairs. People really get in my nerves slagging off the council at every verse end for trying to make Barnsley a nice place again. Sort your heads our or sling your hooks somewhere else if its that bad you load of scroungers

that was an interesting read until you ended it by calling them scroungers Mystery, you do realize not everyone are scroungers don't you? or are you just trying to fish?

Could do with some money spending down our way too. Barnsley is more than just the town centre, and were not all scroungers who complain many of us are just taxpayers who would like to see improvements where we live. What's so wrong with that.?

Been down Castlereagh street for the first time in ages, there isn't actually a road there per se, just hundreds of potholes that hove been filled in over the years!

Sharon... some people are never happy. Could probaly give them a million pounds, they'll always find something to moan about. Shame really isn't it?
