Olympic sprinter Dorothy Hyman, from Cudworth, will be one of the local torchbearers who will carry the flame along its route on June 25.

The flame arrives at Pontefract Road, Lundwood at 1.25pm and will be carried along the A628 to Cundy Cross roundabout at approximately 1.44pm. The torch will then arrive at the Grove Street junction of Pontefract Road at 1.48pm and proceed to pass the Town Hall at 1.58pm, via Kendray Street, Eldon Street and Market Hill.

Torchbearers will then travel along Church Street, Old Mill Lane and County Way, where they will stop at Barnsley College at 2pm.

The flame will start its journey again at 3pm, heading along County Way and Old Mill Lane before turning right onto the A635 Huddersfield Road, until it reaches the junction of Innovation Way at 3.18pm.

Finally, at 3.21pm the Torchbearers will reach Barnsley Road (A637) and head towards Darton. At 3.31pm the Torchbearers will turn left onto Churchfield Lane and travel up Ballfield Lane, before leaving the borough at 3.46pm.

The council is working with schools and community groups to line the route and celebrate the arrival of the Flame in Barnsley, including street athletics in the town centre.

Council leader Steve Houghton said: “This event is going to mark a very proud day for Barnsley and is a great opportunity for communities to see the Olympic Flame and witness the spectacle of the Olympic Torch Relay.

“We are also looking forward to welcoming Dorothy and the other inspirational torchbearers to the community.”

Lets tax it or cut it cos it moves this Governments flagship is going to cost us dearly and we will not benefit at all in Barnsley.

Since Lundwood is not on a Borough boundary, yet it is to arrive there at about 1.25pm, I  must assume that it is being flown in to Lundwood, or is being beamed down form upon high?

We know that it will be coming from the Pontefract direction, so will it miss Brierley, , Shafton, Cudworth and Monk Bretton. Perhaps it is going to simply by-pass the people by going down the Cudowrth Parkway - how silent the announcements are!

It's all well and good, but how much money has been spent over this rubbish, this country is in so much crisis that this could have been spent on the national debt.
