BARNSLEY Hospice fundraisers are setting up collection points at local leisure centres in a special drive to boost stock levels in its charity shops.

Hospice vans will be parking up at four venues all day on March 17 to make it easy for people to drop off donations of unwanted goods.

Dawn Charlesworth, from Barnsley Hospice, said: “The areas where we will be collecting don’t have hospice shops so this is about making it convenient for residents to bring us their unwanted clothes and general bric-a-brac.

“All our vans have logos, so are easy to spot, and there will be hospice staff and volunteers on hand to take donations.”

Vans will be parked up between 10am and 4pm at the Metrodome; Hoyland Leisure Centre; Royston Leisure Centre and the Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre.

Earlier this year we reported that the amount of goods being donated to the charity shops have declined by almost ten per cent – between April and December 2011 30,955 bag loads of goods were donated, compared with 34,280 over the same period in 2010.

It revealed fears that bogus charity collectors were scamming locals charity bags.
