Suspended Sentence For Dad-Of-Two

Friday June 13 2014

A FATHER-OF-TWO turned to growing cannabis after running into 'financial trouble'.

Robert Tutin, 26, of Deightonby Street, Thurnscoe, had been struggling with debts and began growing the drug.

Neighbours reported the smell of cannabis emanating from his property on February 13 and officers found a door glass panel had been smashed and the house broken into.

Brian Outhwaite, prosecuting, said nobody was present but a cannabis growing set-up was found in a small bedroom upstairs.

There were lights, an extractor fan and water butt with feed along with a dozen plants of which six had been cropped.

When Tutin returned home the next day he was arrested.

"This was a commercial enterprise based on his full and frank admission to police," said Mr Outhwaite.

"He was hoping to make a thousand pounds per plant."

Recorder Nicholas Campbell QC told Tutin: "You have made a very foolish mistake but having become involved in this enterprise it has come to nothing. The reality is you haven't gained anything from this criminal activity."

He gave Tutin a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work.

Yes Red. Don't agree with any drug, but if it helps any one suffering maybe so. I do worry though about cancer of the lungs,so its not cut and dry. The debate and medical evidence should be considered by the authorities that's for sure.

We all are struggling with bills and things. Don't all turn to growing drugs

There is no facts that canabis can cause lung cancer unlike tobacco that is legal until a national debate and a understanding of drug addiction with all the miss conceptions and taboos about addiction is argued out in a comonsese way the public will never understand druggies are not all jeans and huddies they all so are the people next door whom put over a mask of normality

Like you said gangi man, the whole cannabis thing needs looking into properly and until it has been, you're no one to state it doesn't cause cancer. Its not just tobacco that causes cancer, the lungs are meant to breath oxygen, nothing else. Anything else is a contamination, thus raising the risk of cancer.

I can probably say with full confidence that cannabis hasn't caused the domestic misery that alcohol has.

The drug is NOT legal in holland, it has been decriminalised. Only allowed to smoke it in designated establishments. Perhaps more research needs to be done before the drastic decision is made. The consequences of cannabis use can be home/life destroying.....and whilst it is illegal in the UK growing it at home should be punished..

i would much rather some one caught growing this drug was made to do 200hrs of unpaid work than tax payers money be used to give them a couple of months of easy living
