Police Polygraph Plan For Sex Offenders

Tuesday May 27 2014

TWO police officers are being trained in how to use lie detectors to monitor local sex offenders.

Detective Constables Andy Tinker and Richard Chambers started the 11-week course - the first of its kind in British policing - as part of a new approach to tackle child abuse.

Detective Inspector Delphine Waring said: “There are many tactics we use to manage and identify sex offenders and polygraph testing is just one risk assessment tool we will use to protect the public.

“Managing sex offenders can often be challenging and we have to be innovative and creative in the approach we take.”

South Yorkshire is one of just two forces who are using the initiative to manage sex offenders.

Tests will be offered to anyone arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children and to convicted sex offenders who are managed solely by the police.

South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright said: “This is an excellent opportunity for officers to be proactive in their management of suspects on police bail and contribute to protecting and safeguarding more children at risk of sexual abuse.”

About time, they should lie detect all criminals.

Lie detectors can't be used in court as try can't be proved to be absolutely 100% accurate - therefore leaving space for error and rendering it as in admissible evidence

Surely the police know that Dave, so what's the point of it at all?

From what little I know the science is pretty flakey and anyone advocating terrible punishment for SUSPECTS, I just hope you are never wrongfully accused yourselves!
