Council Apologise After Rubbish Van Breakdown

Thursday May 22 2014

Barnsley Town Hall Barnsley Town Hall

HOMES across the borough have been advised to leave their bins out after the rubbish van that collects them broke down.

The council has issued an apology saying that vehicle breakdowns have affected waste collection services.

A spokesman said: "The Waste Management service is doing its best to catch up with collections.

"Residents whose waste or recycling has been missed are asked to leave their bins out and they will be collected in due course.

"Collection crews will also be working this Saturday to collect any bins or bags.

"Barnsley Council apologises for the inconvenience this may cause to residents."

Once again this inept council is falling far short of the service we should receive from them any excuse and what happens when we leave the bins out and they are stolen or set fire to oh we just wait months for replacements absolute disgrace

Flaming hell Margaret, cut them a bit of slack! They cant help a wagon breaking down!
And before you start,Ive had my bins set on fire, and yes Im still waiting for replacements, but now youre just looking for something to beat them with. Suppose your car never breaks down then.

Margaret I agree, the service is below par! There are many issues with the council at the moment with all this restructuring and you have every right as a resident to complain if the service promised is not the service delivered. I agree a broken down van is nothing to complain about sid but come on you have to agree this is just the latest in a long line of things going belly up with the council lately

Reply Posted by sid on Thursday May 22 2014 at 13:33
Read my posts earlier jenny. I'm just saying, a broken down wagon can't be helped. Its just moaners using it to beat the council again. Yes the council have been cr@p, but give em a break. Strange there are always more money nasty posts and very few giving anyone credit. Time to cheer up for some on here.

We have had 'teething' problems and we are awaiting the larger sized bins and have been for around 8 weeks and had to wait for the new bags for the paper, but decided to pick that up myself! if they are a day late so what?! It is still getting emptied
I believe in the recycle scheme so the extra mile I have to go isn't an issue!

A man after my own heart.

God almighty least they have come on social media to appologise and let people no what's happening. Who cares if there a day late emptying the bins. If barnsley council ever did owt good no one would bat an eyelid. Things happen that can't be helped. Yeah they might have been crap this year but they've had there budgets cut by the central government so what do u expect!!

You've got a point there. Good story on here at the moment about the museum - zero comments! Lot of people in Barnsley just like to whinge.

Load a crap..didnt turn up at all last week
wonder what colour they will come for tomorrow because they dont stick to whats advertised on website and the tins and empty bottles of lager just grow n grow all over my neighbourhood.
still no doubt they have been voted in again.garbage(no pun intended)

Reply Posted by Jay on Friday May 23 2014 at 01:23
Yep they will have been voted in again, not because they have done a good job, just coz people won't change their vote. It's all based on what happens 30 yrs ago and not whats happening now! As I say as always, plop a nice big coal mine in the middle of town and everyone will be happy ;)!!!

Usual rubbish excuse from Barnsley hopeless council!!!!!...it's about time ppl in this area voted the labour controlled council out...or this place will get stuck in time like all the surrounding ex pit villages....it's like looking at a museum ....backward...living in the past...run down ...and definitely forgot about by Barnsley council.....these villages are being left to rot into the ground...

Sid stop creating more names to try and make it look like people agree with you. If bin collection was a free service thrn you may have a point...but it isnt, my council tax goes towards this service and when i pay for a service i expect a certain standard. We are not talking about 1 week of a missed service here, its been every single collection since they switched to the new bin rota months back.

Reply Posted by sid on Saturday May 24 2014 at 12:02
No @carl, I'm not creating names, that,d be plain daft. I'm saying no one can help the wagon breaking down, I would think everyone agrees on that. The rest of the grumbles,OK, never mentioned them. I'm one of the lucky ones, alls gone smooth with collections. Just sick of the groaning gits just jumping on the band wagon for uncontrollable problems. Yes the system needs sorting, but the wagon breakdown? Dry yer eyes Moaning Minnie's! How many Minnie's voted? ERM,let's see..none,as it was raining, and they would have all been indoors happily moaning about the weather. Machines breakdown, get over it!

Look at it like this:-
1/ council, lorry broke down send the lads home on full pay and them pay extra to work week end to catch up

2/ private industry, hire a truck or double shift another one cos customers count

Reply Posted by hehe on Saturday May 24 2014 at 12:41
What you grumbling for then bin man. You're coining it in.

Reply Posted by Liz on Saturday May 24 2014 at 12:59
We'll said Carl we are paying for a service we are not getting at the moment and Sid stop calling people moaning Minnie's very disrespectful they are sharing views which they are entitled to do

Reply Posted by yorky on Saturday May 24 2014 at 22:36
How come when 1 lorry breaks down, both bin lorries arrive 1 day late? No sense in it

Reply Posted by Lyn on Sunday May 25 2014 at 01:26
Why is it always the bin men that get the blame they are only doing what they are told to do. Time people started blaming those who sit behind the desks and not the bin men

Reply Posted by Rubydoo on Sunday May 25 2014 at 09:17
Would be interesting to see some figures from BMBC, I'd like to know how much overtime they have had to pay to the bin men since the changeover. Money spent here means less money in other areas. Come on BMBC get your act together, its just not good enough at the moment.

It's a pity more people don't feel as passionate about voting. You could have made a difference to the way the bin services and the Council do or don't do there jobs by voting last Thursday at the local elections.

Then again it was raining. that's why the big wigs at the town hall don't listen or answer to the voters concerns. They don't have to because if a monkey stood for Labour in Barnsley it would get elected.

Reply Posted by @drbebate on Sunday May 25 2014 at 17:23
Who they going to vote for cause people of barnsley won't vote Tories in and everyone else is as useless as labour at the min espicially with that lot running the central government. Who keep slashing budgets ere and budgets there. Barnsley isn't the only town in a state. But you all think your hard done by. I must be lucky cause for as long as remember council as never failed to empty my bin

Reply Posted by sue paxford on Monday May 26 2014 at 14:51
Agree since new bin collections times - ours have been day late several times. Cant always be vans breaking down. As for voting - yep people in barnsley stick to labour no matter what - therefore council will carry on getting it wrong
