Busy Summer Ahead For Reds

THE Reds are considering imposing a new rule in their transfer dealings over the summer which could see them only signing players who are willing to live within 25 miles of the town.

A 'Made in Barnsley' motto has been described by chief executive Ben Mansford, who hopes that a more local approach will resonate will the club's fiercely loyal fan base.

Manager Danny Wilson has already brought in Holmfirth-based Chris Hutchings and Barnsley man Mark Crossley as his assistant and goalkeeping coach respectively.

This move and apparent backing from the club's board would hint that Wilson will remain as manager for next season, despite no official confirmation as yet.

"We need to come back with a group who are pleased to be in Barnsley and buy into the town," Mansford said. "Anyone who comes to play for us must be prepared to live local.

"We will be encouraging any players we sign to move to places such as Tankersley and Woolley Grange.

"Hopefully a 'Made in Barnsley' approach will resonate with our fans. If we do that, we can give the town what it deserves and a group of players who will give absolutely everything for the club."

Fans can expect a lot of transfer activity from the Reds over the summer months. Bobby Hassell, Stephen Dawson, Jim O'Brien, Martin Woods, Iain Turner, Liam Lawrence, Tomasz Cywka, Jacob Mellis, Kelvin Etuhu, Emmanuel Frimpong, Paddy McCourt and a host of youngsters are all out of contract.

"We think there might be interest from Championship clubs for Martin Cranie, Luke Steele, Chris O'Grady and Dale Jennings," added Mansford.

"We would like to keep them, but if offers came in we would look at them and see if it is in the club's best interests to let the players go."

What do you think to this idea? Is the 'Made in Barnsley' approach a good one? Have your say below.

Steele to go not that good now. Ogrady jennings to stay always let the decent players go for price but never replace with equal or better players. Always from lower leagues who can't play championship football

Never mind the posh, genteel villages of Tankersley, Woolley Grange, Cawthorne etc. We should be making the players live where the real locals do - in Athersley, Wombwell, Goldthorpe, New Lodge etc etc etc!

Flipping hell Mr.x! Would you like your employers to dictate where you have to live? Everyone lives where their money allows. Even zero hours contracts haven't gone that far. You sound jealous. Little Hitler.
