Reds Face Tough Task After Easter Defeats

THE Reds need to win their two remaining games to stand any chance of avoiding relegation after two losses over the Easter weekend.

Barnsley, who went into their Yorkshire derby against Leeds United with renewed confidence after beating Charlton on Tuesday night, fell behind after 16 minutes thanks to Ross McCormack's clever finish.

The hosts created little in response and rarely threatened Leeds keeper Jack Butland's goal. A solitary effort from Dale Jennings in the first half was gathered easily by the ex-Barnsley loanee, with Tomasz Cywka's volleyed effort falling wide of the target.

Leeds, who haven't enjoyed much success at Oakwell in the last few years, held on for a 1-0 win.

Easter Monday saw the Reds make the daunting trip to high-flying Derby, a club who are now guaranteed a play-off place having had a strong season since Steve McLaren's arrival.

They went ahead after the half-hour mark thanks to a long-range effort from Jeff Hendrick and doubled their lead eight minutes later through Johnny Russell's looping shot, leaving the Reds with a mountain to climb in the second half.

Barnsley halved their deficit with 10 minutes to go through Nick Proschwitz, but it was too little too late and Derby claimed a deserved 2-1 victory.

"It doesn't really change anything," said Danny Wilson. "We've always needed to win games and we have to win the last two, it's as simple as that.

"We're down in everybody's eyes and that's understandable, but we have six valuable points to play for and who knows what twist of fate is waiting on the last day of the season?

"We have to genuinely believe we can be the recipient of a good result on that particular weekend and stay up, but it will need two wins.

"You know from experience that on the last day of the season peculiar things happen. We've had some very good displays in recent weeks and that gives me belief, it really does. We have some very good characters in the dressing room who will give it everything."

With two games left to play, do you think the Reds' relegation battle has been lost? Have your say below.

Barnsley v Leeds was the worst game I seen at Oakwell for years.

The Don Rowlings of BFC have a lot to answer for the clubs positions. Allowing previous players to use the club as a spring board to improve there own personell futures.

The only thing Calamity Rowling has done is cause cock ups and gave himself a title.

If Barnslry do escape relegation it would be the biggest escape than The Great Train Robbery of 1963

I have to agree immensley with kfc. Rowin messed up large. Cant blame wilson the other 2 clowns before him messed up. As flr dagnall wilson didnt really have time to decide whether to keep him. He had to make some quick decisions wilson must take some blame one up front at home ??? Suprisingly negative. We have a dodgy owner with a dodgy board. When we do go down these men must be made to explain and be shamed. Coming back up is not gauranteed.

The only bit of what Observer said that I agree with is the last sentence. Everything else is complete nonsense.
