PATIENTS are being reminded to only attend Barnsley Hospital’s A&E department if it is essential over the bank holiday weekend.

Chief operating officer David Peverelle said: "Our message to people is to please enjoy the bank holiday weekend, but if you need health care, remember that the A&E department is for emergencies only.

"Please think carefully about whether or not it is appropriate for you to attend."

Oh lord, forgive all those who are selfish enough to fall ill over the easter weekend! We have a third rate health service We can't access our GP for four days, the surgeries will be fully booked for the rest of next week because of the back log of patients denied treatment over the holiday. What the hell do they expect us to do? Die without a fuss I suppose!

Stop moaning about our FREE health service. You sound like the type of person they're on about who will go to A&E when all you need is a plaster. The constant moaners in this town are embarrassin.g

Sorry but it never used to be like this. We should expect no less than to go to hospital anytime we like. My opinion is that the health service is a tug of war with politicians. Privatise them. Dont give them this to llay with anymore. Or use as a scapegoat for other parties failings lets not have the twomtier system we have. Make it fair for all privatise it.

you attend the a&e because that is exactly what it says on the tin not because you have an hangover from the night before or a sniffle the health service is at breaking point thanks to this and other goverments under funding, nurses who are working double shifts because of short staffing, private contract cleaners who are run ragged so the company that hires them can make bigger profits, i am not saying dont go to the a&e but just think, there is a free phone number you could ring first that would put you intouch with an emergency doctors appointment.
