MP DAN Jarvis has raised almost £10,000 for Cancer Research having completed the London Marathon on Sunday.

The Barnsley Central MP, who is a keen runner and completed last year's marathon, crossed the finish line with his father, Bernard, in three hours and 45 minutes - beating last year's time by 60 seconds.

Bernard, 69, is a veteran of over 68 marathons and joined his son on the 26.2-mile course in tribute to the MP's late wife who died of cancer in 2010.

"I'm proud to have run the marathon for such an excellent cause," Dan said. "It was very hard work and I didn't get in as much training as I would have liked, but I'm so pleased to have finished the course alongside my dad."

So running 26 miles and raising 10 grand for cancer research is "jollying it up"? What a ridiculous comment. The farthest most MP's can run is to the house of commons bar. Well done Mr Jarvis.
