Improvement Noted At Troubled School

Wednesday April 23 2014

Ofsted Ofsted

THERE has been rapid improvement made at a troubled primary school, according to Ofsted.

The education watchdog said last year that Doncaster Road Primary School needed improvement but after an inspection last month, positives have been noted.

Meetings were held with executive headteacher Viv Hall and headteacher Jane Lea-Jones and Ofsted said both have 'a strong vision for improving the school'.

The report said: "The love of reading is being developed through a weekly 'golden time' reading session in which pupils have the opportunity to read a wide range of materials including electronic devices and reading games.

"Literacy is being further developed through the use of interactive learning walls which encourage pupils to be independent and improve the clarity of planning."

No comments? Would have been flooded if it had done badly - well done to everyone involved

The other thread about the school with the bad Ofsted report isn't exactly overflowing with comments Craig.

Get over yourself, teaching standards in Barnsley are poor.

Doncaster rd school used to be a fantastic learning environment years ago. Not sure about that now, happy teachers make for happy learning!

Ben- you can not make a sweeping statement like that. Teaching standards in Barnsley are not poor, however some teachers are indeed poor. Behavioural standards are poor, specifically attitude towards behaviour standards by a minority of students and parents.

'Satisfactory' results have become the target to aim for throughout society which in turn leads to complacency,.In my mind satisfactory is not good enough & the 'bar' should be raised to at least 'good'.
