A Blooming Reminder For Would-Be Adopters

Tuesday April 1 2014

FORTY-SIX daffodils which were planted to represent a Barnsley child who is awaiting adoption are now in full bloom.

For National Adoption Week last November, Barnsley's adoption team planted the bulbs at Cannon Hall Farm and, with the recent spell of spring-like weather, the bright flowers are now in bloom.

Coun Tim Cheetham, cabinet spokesman for children, young people and families, said that the town is working towards dispelling the myths that exist regarding who can and can't adopt.

He added: "Adoptive parents come from all ages and backgrounds, including single and married people, heterosexual and same-sex couples and people who rent or are home owners.

"What is more important than individual circumstances is a person’s ability to provide a safe, stable and nurturing family home in which children can grow and thrive."

For people interested in adoption, the team hold monthly information evenings. The next event is at Barnsley Town Hall at 6pm on April 15.
