Church Street Assault Leaves Man In Critical Condition

Police are appealing for information after a man was seriously injured in an assault in the early hours of Saturday morning (August 6.)

At around 1.30am, a man was seriously assaulted on Church Street, Wombwell. He sustained head injuries and is in a critical condition at Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield.

It is believed that the assault was carried out by a white male, in his early 20s, approximately 6ft tall, slim build with short brown hair. He was believed to be wearing a light coloured t-shirt at the time of the incident and came from the direction of the Royal Oak Public House.

DCI Sean Middleton of South Yorkshire police said: “This is a serious assault. We know that there were quite a few people on Church Street around the time of the assault. If you were on Church Street, I would urge you to contact us as you may have vital information that will help with our investigation.”
