Man Arrested After Worsbrough Car Smash

Wednesday February 22 2012

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two people were injured in a head-on car crash on Sheffield Road, at Worsbrough Bridge yesterday.

The incident happened at 5.24am on February 21 at the Birdwell side of the junction of Sheffield Road with Worsbrough Road.

The incident involved a silver Vauxhall Vectra - which is thought to have been travelling towards Barnsley on the wrong side of the road - and a blue Ford Fiesta.

The Fiesta driver, a 42-year-old man from Shafton, Barnsley, was treated at Barnsley Hospital for cuts and bruises before being allowed home.

The Vectra driver, a 42-year-old Barnsley man, suffered slight bruising and swelling to his right ankle.

A police spokesman said: "Following his release from hospital, the Vectra driver was arrested by police for dangerous driving, failing to provide a urine sample at hospital and driving other than in accordance with a licence. He was taken to Barnsley Police Station for questioning, but later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

"Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have seen the Vectra just prior to the impact."
