Midfielder Makes Hospice Donation As Apology To Fans

BARNSLEY midfielder Stephen Dawson has apologised after confronting a Reds supporter in the away end after the final whistle on Saturday.

The Irishman had to be restrained by team-mates after being involved in an altercation with a visiting fan and has now apologised for his actions and made a 'significant donation' to Barnsley Hospice.

Angry fans - who had witnessed the Reds lose 5-0 to Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield - let their feelings be known with a chorus of boos.

The club issued a statement on their website and apologised to travelling fans. It said: "As a club, we do not condone any provocative actions from any of its employees and would like to further apologise for any offence caused.

"Having the backing of our supporters is of paramount importance, especially as we head into the final months of our current campaign.

"Stephen Dawson has apologised unreservedly for his actions."

Brek Shea, who allegedly signalled a hand gesture towards Barnsley fans, is currently away on international duty with the USA.

The club confirmed the incident is under investigation and a further statement will be made.

These players are nothing but a disgrace ... As long as they are picking up their big wages they could care less about us fans ... The lot of em should be sacked including that buffoon Wilson !!

Brek Shea had his head down all match and only looked up when he gave the fans the finger, disgusting and should never pull a Barnsley shirt on again, as for Dawson, he shouldn't let fans who are all mouth and no trousers wind him up. But the fans that call people what they did and complain when he has a go back are a bunch of T****rs

A 5 nil thrashing is enough to tip any set of fans over the edge,
But directing personnel abuse at the players does not help, but I can understand the frustration, we are all suffering it at the moment,
On the other hand the way the Dawson and Shea have reacted is not acceptable,
I think shea should be sent straight back to stoke and Dawson should have the rest of his contract torn up,

Has there been some kind of mix up with Brek Shea? Is he an American football player and not A 'soccer' player.
Mind you that can't be right you need heart and a spine to play American football.
