WOMBWELL Library's £500,000 refurbishment will start on Monday.

The building, on Station Road, is set to provide more space for community groups with the construction of an extension.

Solar panels on the roof will reduce the building's carbon footprint, and mobility parking and a pick-up point will be provided outside the main entrance.

The library will remain open during the building works, with library users and service visitors being able to access the building through the main entrance.

Its car park, to the rear of the building, will need to be completely closed to enable essential foundation works to be carried out from March 10 for 17 weeks.

It will then be partially re-opened with 18 parking bays and one designated disabled parking bay for the remainder of the construction works.

Coun Jenny Platts, cabinet spokesperson for adults and communities, said: "The library is already a popular place for community groups and volunteers to gather, so this will allow more groups to carry out more activities to benefit the residents of Wombwell.

"We would like to thank in advance library users, residents, shoppers and local business for their patience whilst these works take place."

The works are expected to be completed before the end of November.

Are they using a local company to undertake the refurbishment project?
