HISTORIC archives of the former Great Houghton CE Junior School are on show at Experience Barnsley.

The archives - including headteachers' log books dating back to 1908 - also have admission registers from 1916 which recorded thousands of pupils who attended the school.

There are also plans of the building, accounts and an early punishment register.

Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesman, said: "Log books were the daily diary of the school, recording events, activities, absences, inspections and commemorations for national events - even the weather.

"The collection is fascinating and the new catalogue has made it much easier to access this part of Great Houghton's education history."
