Library Artwork Sale Cancelled By Council

Friday February 28 2014

PLANS to sell off artwork that had been stored in Barnsley Central Library have been cancelled by the council.

It had advertised for an auctioneer to assist in the sale of more than 160 pieces of art from the Shambles Street library but this plan has now been shelved.

A council spokeswoman said: "The council has decided not to proceed with an auction of the collection of paintings that formed a picture loan service."

The collection - a combination of original works and limited edition prints - were available for members of the public to have on loan for up to three months at a time but due to a decline in public interest the service ceased in 2007.

Cancelled by the council! More like they were stopped in their tracks and had no choice in the matter! A lot of these prints were donated to the library, and the council had absolutely no rights to selling them and profiting from them. so NICE TRY BMBC!!!
