Hand Car Wash Plans Rejected

Wednesday February 26 2014

PLANS to create a hand car wash on the site of a former petrol station have been turned down.

The plan was refused by the planning board on the grounds that water spray would affects neighbours to the site on Pontefract Road, Cudworth.

Chris Gothard, the developer's agent, said the company was disappointed.

He added: "When speaking to officers all the concerns have been about noise, and we've addressed that by reducing the number of bays from three to two, screening and planting.

"The site is stood there not contributing to the community. There have been a few incidents of vandalism and anti-social behaviour which can only get worse."

surely a compromise could have been reached. the place looks an absolute disgrace. i would have thought as it stands now it devalues thier propertys. i know i wouldnt like to live by the side of it as it stands, i think the neighbours have been foolish.

There are worse things than a carwash. Next the land will be sold, houses or flats built on it and thus the loss of privacy for the neighbours. Better the devil you know sometimes.

I live next door to one & they're bloody noisy! Open from 8-6 every single day! But, I'd rather there was a car wash there than derelict land where undesirable characters can hang around causing disturbances n trouble

Could have struck up a deal with the neighbouring homes affected by noise and offered free car valeting.

That place might be good as a taxi rank. There's a small office and plenty of space. The nearest cab office is in town I think. When the new Aldi opens it could do well. Shame for it to be stood as the eyesore that it is.
