Reckless Group Seen Climbing Concrete Skeleton

A RECKLESS group of lads were seen climbing a half-finished bulding on the edge of the town centre.

The City Reach concrete skeleton has become a magnet for vandals and drug users since the £5 million development stalled.

Police have been called out to numerous incidents involving people being inside the unfinished building.

One of the group could be seen on the top floor while another was photographed peering over the edge of one of the lower floors.

They were then seen jumping back over the security fencing, which has barbed wire on top, in order to leave the abandoned construction site.

They were met by police officers who had been called to the scene and were stopped and searched before being allowed to go.

Barnsley Council's building control team was made aware and is looking into making sure the site is secure.

Not surprising really is it?
Nothing for young people in town centre, and there's a giant abandoned climbing frame with nobody watching it left there. How many years has this eyesore been around? Tear it down and save some lives, ridiculous.

Asa's photograph, taken from his climb to the top of this structure, gets used often on here.

He was no less reckless because he was a photographer.
He was actually in a group of three, and he was the inexperienced one - thats why he sent his pictures to you guys. The other two didn't. When you break the law, entering properties like this, you rarely share them like he did.

Free climbing not free when you get rushed into hospital because you've snapped your spine in half, cost of xrays, operations you need, yeah June that would be a much better idea.

If they are stupid enough to go climbing it then let them! They should know better and the council can't be blamed for some immature boys' stupidity!!

I thought I read somewhere that the building had now been purchased, and it would be completed in the near future

It was in the Chronicle last year that it was 'offered for auction in Leeds on October 24 by Eddisons on the instruction of the Joint LPA Receivers - for less than four per cent of its original value.' Not sure if it sold or not?
