Football Pitches Closed Due To Weather

ALL council-owned football pitches will be closed this weekend due to adverse weather and ground conditions, Barnsley Council has revealed.

The closures will be on February 11 and 12 and will affect Cudworth Park, Mitchell & Darfield, Mapplewell Recreation Ground, Barugh Green Recreation Ground, Darton Park, Darton Longfields, Gilroyd Recreation Ground, Harry Road Playing Field, Kexborough Recreation Ground, Woodview, Gawber, Hickleton Sports Ground, Brickyard Ponds, Carfield Lane, Goldthorpe, Ings Lane Recreation Ground, South Road, Blacker Hill Recreation Ground, Jump Welfare Park, Milton Forge, Hoyland, Platts Common Recreation Ground, Platts Common (Behind Ambulance Station), Broadway Recreation Ground, Carlton Recreation Ground, Littleworth Lane Recreation Ground, Monk Bretton Social, Rotherham Road Playing Fields, Pogmoor Recreation Ground, Silkstone Common Recreation Ground, Tankersley Welfare Park, Lidgett Lane, Park Avenue Penistone (Showground), Birdwell Community Park, Rockingham Sports, Tinker Lane, Hoyland Common, Oldroyds Recreation Ground, Royston Park, The Green, Royston, Ardsley Recreation Ground, Elmhurst, Kendray Recreation Ground, Athersley Memorial Recreation Ground, Bradbury Balk Lane, Lundhill Playing Fields, Mary Lane Playing Field, New Scarborough Playing Field, Wombwell Main, Cromwell Mount, New England (Cutting Edge), Ward Green Recreation Ground, and Worsbrough Dale Park.

Odd, council have never shut them before, it's generally left to the referee to make the decision

aye looks like it, funny thing is that Sheffield Council are doing it because they say they would be unable to rectify any damage to the pitches.

For the 400 and odd pounds a year teams spend to use Barnsley Council owned pitches you get about 3 guaranteed cuts of the grass, pitch marked out once (but not burned) and generally no changing facilities, those that do get dressing rooms get ones that haven't been maintaned in years. If you play on a recreational field you sometimes get a few perks like it rolling once in a while.
