Reds' Poor Away Form Continues

THE Reds slumped to a 2-0 defeat at play-off chasing Wigan Athletic last night.

Despite conceding twice to efforts from Nicky Maynard and Martyn Waghorn during a one-sided first half, the Reds came out battling after the interval and were unlucky not to score.

Manager Danny Wilson brought on Lewin Nyatanga and Brek Shea for Chris O'Grady and Ryan McLaughlin and the away side began to find their feet, with chances falling to Emmanuel Frimpong, Nick Proschwitz and Dale Jennings.

However it was not to be and the defeat - which continues Barnsley's abysmal away form - leaves the Reds in a precarious position just a point off the foot of the table.

"The two halves were chalk and cheese," said Wilson. "We were far more ambitious and determined to go forward.

"We had lots of efforts which we could have done better with and we were certainly in the ascendancy but it didn't come.

"There were large parts of this game we did quite well in. They're a Premier League club in the making and they've got lots of quality players - you have to accept that.

"What we've got is encouragement from a performance in the second half against a team that will be challenging for promotion places at the end of the season."

Next up for the Reds is a crucial home match against Millwall on Saturday.

Only won 4 games out of 30 this season.

Can't see Reds getting 30 points out of next 16 games. League 1 next season.

The performance at Wigan was very poor. No real quality, limited endeavour and poor team selection. I think we are down, but I really do hope that I am wrong.
