Monday February 17 2014

THREE Barnsley companies made it into the top five in a list of the county's 100 best-performing businesses.

Barugh Green-based Melett - a company which specialises in turbocharger repairs - topped the list of most profitable small and medium-sized enterprises compiled by the Yorkshire Post.

Dransfield Properties, who came third, built on last year's placing of 17th largely thanks to its work on the £15million regeneration of Penistone town centre.

The Tankersley firm - formed in 1992 - originally focused on food store developments but has since branched out into major development schemes.

Glass Recycling (UK) - which employs 70 people - made it three Barnsley companies in the top five by finishing in fourth, were recognised for their efforts in collecting and recycling thousands of tonnes of glass every week.

Mark Dransfield, managing director of Dransfield Properties, said: "We're a private company that has expanded in a difficult climate.

"Over the past two years we have invested heavily in our staff and in our shopping centres which has had a positive impact on the company's performance."
