Action Taken After Resident Complaints

Wednesday February 5 2014

A GROUP will be set up to look at improving housing issues in the Dearne after complaints that some tenants take no care of their properties.

In a report presented to Barnsley Council last month, issues relating to housing topped a poll of things that worried residents in the Dearne.

The top areas highlighted were Thurnscoe and Goldthorpe where a third of residents polled said it was an issue.

The report said: "These problems were percieved as a knock on effect of empty and badly managed properties.

"There is a strong feeling in the Dearne that private landlords often rent out houses without any checks on the tenants who take no pride or responsibility in looking after their homes and the surrounding areas."

An 'engagement hub' is now being formed to work with the residents to try to set some targets for improvement.

I've had two lots of really bad tenants and I advised others never to be a landlord. People are dragged up these days they don't even see the filth they live in. One tenant never vacummed up in six months other Tennant well the house wouldn't be standing still now if they still lived there . Left house full of toxic damp and filthy

It depends on the property and the renters. I ask for £500 deposit, redeemable only on my satisfaction that the property is left as clean and up to standard as when they moved in. Its been fine up to now. No problems. You do need to assess the tenant, and often the first impression is the indicater.
Bad luck tho Barnsley lad, but try and be more selective of your Tennant's.

yep I did the same as you ' asked for five hundred pounds bond ' that was a waste of time to be honest as the damage and filth that was left easily swallowed that up ' Yep I was very lenient in who had for tenants first couple of times as was desperate to get someone in. I leased through a very well known estate agent in town ' and they broke promises they made to carry out inspection's found out I was just paying them to come up with bs and to get irate shouting down the phone at them . Thankfully have best tenant ever now she's very clean living and never seen the house look or smell as nice. So goes to show there's plenty of nice tenants about who look after property just have to fish through the mingers ;-)

Barnsley lad,try North Star,Cudworth. They took photos of the property for reference to renters, and carry out inspections etc for a small fee each month. They vet the renter etc,do all the business. They have been excellent. I'm happy so far...fingers crossed.
