Forgetful Drivers Leave Easy Pickings For Thieves

Tuesday January 28 2014

FORGETFUL drivers who leave their cars unlocked are providing easy pickings for thieves, police have warned.

Thieves struck eight times overnight last Saturday. In six of the cases, the vehicles had been left unlocked.

The thefts - at Thurnscoe, Hoyland, Athersley, Ward Green, Darfield and Hemingfield - saw many items being stolen including a sat nav, mini disc player, power tools, alloys and number plates.

Chief Inspector Andy Hodgkinson, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "New fobs mean that drivers don't physically have to put the key in the lock when they secure their vehicle.

"But we'd urge them to check that the vehicle is locked at night and then keep keys out of sight."
