We Are Barnsley We Are Barnsley

A PRIMARY school in Barnsley has been congratulated after achieving top results in tests for 11 year olds!

Schools minister David Laws MP wrote to Sandhill Primary School headteacher Judith Hirst.

He said: "Your results show that you're amongst the 250 top performing schools in terms of the progress your pupils make between Key Stage 1 and the end of Key Stage 2.

"Your school is exceptionally effective in educating its pupils."

Mr Laws goes on to congratulate staff, governors and pupils at the Great Houghton school for their hard work and success.

Mrs Hirst said: "I'm immensely proud of the children, the staff and the governors for all their hard work and support of the school.

"I'd like to thank all the staff for their dedication and commitment to improving the quality of teaching and learning.

"Particular thanks go to Jo White for her outstanding work on developing our curriculum and the vision we all share."

Two other primary schools in Barnsley have also received letters of congratulations from the schools minister.

Barugh Green Primary at Higham Common Road and Lacewood Primary at Bolton-upon-Dearne were congratulated for the highest achievement among disadvantaged children.

Cllr Tim Cheetham, cabinet spokesperson for children, young people and families, commented: "I would like to offer my congratulations to Barugh Green, Sandhill and Lacewood.

"Their inclusion in the list of the top 250 performing primary schools nationally is further evidence of the excellent achievements being made by children in schools across Barnsley."
