Hotel Owners Respond To Social Media Claims

Monday January 13 2014

THE owners of Ardsley House Hotel have assured people that their bookings are safe after rumours on Facebook claimed it was about to close.

Over 150 comments surfaced, with people claiming it was about to go bust and shut. This was sparked, the owners believe, by a row with some staff members over pay.

Owners Akkeron Hotels Group have denied they're in administration and said all bookings will be honoured - although it confirmed the 74-bed premises has been up for sale since last August.

Front office manager Angie Holland said all 30 full and part-time staff were aware the hotel was up for sale.

"We're not in administration or liquidation," she said. "I'm currently planning Valentine's Day and Christmas 2014. We even have a wedding booked for 2015."

Worried groom-to-be Tony Batty, who runs Tony's Barber on Racecommon Road, Barnsley, has his reception booked for September 6.

He said: "I've already had my fingers burned as we were supposed to get married in May last year but the hotel we chose in Lincolnshire went bust.

"We feared the worst when we saw the rumours."

Akkeron spokesman Nick Greaves said: "Ardsley House is a good, solid business and there has been a lot of interest in it.

"But it no longer fits with the group's long-term business strategy. It's not closing, it's not in administration and I don't know where these rumours came from."

Mrs Holland admitted some of the hotel rooms did need work but said redecoration had already been done in areas like the bar.
