Man Injured After Being Hit By Car In Barnsley

A MAN has been seriously injured after being hit by a car in Barnsley last night.

The 21-year-old was crossing Whinby Road - near the Toby Carvery at Dodworth - at around 9.45pm last night (January 19) when he was struck by a blue Ford Ka that was travelling towards the M1.

The man, from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, has a fractured skull and is being treated in Barnsley Hospital. The female driver of the car, 41, from Wakefield, was not injured.

Police are now investigating to find out how the accident happened and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the accident or the movements of the pedestrian or car prior to it.

Anyone with information is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1060 of the 19 January.

This road is terrible for pedetrians - practically impossible to cross from Toby's towards Dodworth... Would be great to have a proper crossing (yes I know that would equal traffic chaos!)
