Man Injured In Tankersley Fire Truck Collision

A MAN has suffered serious injuries after his car crashed with a fire truck in Tankersley yesterday.

The incident - on Westwood New Road - happened at 3pm yesterday (January 12.) A red fire truck (similar to a fire engine) was travelling towards Tankersley when a silver Vauxhall Combo van came out of Wortley Road and into the path of the vehicle.

The fire vehicle collided with the van and the force of the impact caused the van across the carriageway and into the junction with Hollingberry Lane.

The 55-year-old driver, from Sheffield, driving the van sustained a serious head injury and is being treated in Northern General Hospital.

The 47-year-old man, driving the fire vehicle was also from Sheffield and was not reported to have been hurt.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, please call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 581 of the 12 January.
