Stadium Name Change Possible If Money Is Right

Wednesday November 27 2013

BARNSLEY Football Club would consider selling Oakwell's naming rights if the price was right.

Chief executive Ben Mansford admitted the club would 'probably' accept an offer like the one Derby County recently took.

Fellow Championship side Derby are set to pocket £7million over ten years after agreeing to rename Pride Park the iPro Stadium.

Mansford, speaking at the Reds On Tour event at The Courthouse pub on November 13, said: "Oakwell will always be Oakwell, but if the money was right we'd probably accept such an offer."

Mansford, who was joined at the town centre pub by Peter Ramage, Tomasz Cwyka and physio Craig Sedgwick, also revealed plans for further ticket initiatives.

What do you think to this? Would you be in favour of a lucrative deal to change Oakwell's name? Have your say below.

I would be if it meant we could get the west stand done, then we would have a really good ground

No good sorting the west stand. There need to get fans through the turnstiles first.

It would be nice to upgrade the west stand before changing the name of the ground

I thought Oakwell was now owned by Barnsley Council, any money from the ground should go to the tax payers of Barnsley.??

i agree with mad and bad. that man needs to go. asap. i dont think 7 million over a period of 10 years is a good deal???. its short sightedness money making scam. we need to get ppl through the turnstiles. and to do this we need to have a team on the pitch who can win points. and stay out of the bottom 3. its not difficult. and before any of you be moan.."we have no money" thats a load of bullshit.

football fans are fickle jaybut lets not forget. bfc were extemely slow in sacking keith hill.flicker did well on keeping us up,with a lot of good results. and also dont forget we were extremely lucky. all that hard work would have gone out the window had posh won. but that was last season. you cant live on the back of a " staying up party"lets look at this season. he started off by not using the same formation 442 which he used to keep us up werent we half dozen goals against after 2 games? for me, thats when he should have gone. his team selection became shocking.. his timing of subs were dire..he had favourites. perkins for e.g. he should follow flicker now.! along with a few more.he had completely lost the dressing room. i know this for a fact. this is a positive step for bfc. the most positive since hill got the sack. my only grip with the directors is why does it take them so long to react to a crisis??. why are they so slow??. surely the alarm bells were ringing when the goals were flying in against us???. so, jay. its that what makes me sick. not the comments on here that people put on. people have opinions..
