Man Ends Up In Hospital After Daft Bet

Wednesday November 13 2013

Barnsley Hospital Barnsley Hospital

A MAN whose friends bet him a tenner he couldn't eat a full chestnut ended up in hospital - after it got lodged in his throat.

The man, in his 60s, and his pals were drinking in the Barley Sheaf, on Aldham House Lane, Wombwell.

The nut got stuck in his throat after he had attempted to swallow it whole. He began to choke as he could not wash it down with a drink from his pint.

He was taken from the A and E department at Barnsley Hospital to the Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield where doctors managed to push it down into his stomach.

Staff at the pub said the customer has been in since and is now waiting for nature to take its course.

I hope A&E bill him

Or he should at least donate the £10 to a hospital charity

Is this the most newsworthy event WAB can find to cover. Someone who should know a damn sight better at 60 yrs old. Both BDGH and Hallamshire should charge him for their wasted time when they could have been spending tax payers money helping sick people who weren't at hospital through their own stupidity

This made me laugh. If we charge him for hospital time and services we must extend that to all the obese folk that clog up the NHS with obesity related diseases.

So what if a man went down the pub and had a bet with some pals. Bet they didn't cough up! We know he won't be doing it again in a hurry! However does he deserve to die? Deserve not to have NHS support? I don't think so, there are plenty of people end up in A&E for more silly things, drugs, drink, playing daft pranks n we are still able to support these people. Let's hope some of you never wind up in a spot of bother through your own actions! Hope this man gets better soon and is back down the pub after chestnut season is over
