Barnsley Man Sent To Crown Court

A BARNSLEY man has been charged after targeting the elderly - including allegedly defrauding a 79-year-old woman of over £54,000.

Ian Lawson, 35, of Cedar Crescent, appeared at Barnsley Magistrates' on November 4.

The charge is in relation to three separate incidents, dating back to June this year.

The first incident happened on June 18, when an 85-year-old Barnsley man paid for gardening work that is reported to have never happened.

The second incident happened on July 21, when an 83-year-old Barnsley man paid for building work that is reported to have never taken place.

The third incident is in relation to a 79-year-old Barnsley woman who has been defrauded of over £54,000 since August.

Lawson was remanded in custody and will next appear at Sheffield Crown Court on November 18, 2013.

his that all he as done fraud. this scum bag could have given these elderly people heart attacks with all the upset he as caused. don't you just love all these do gooders. hope it doesn't happen to any of your family members. preying on the elderly makes me sick. hang these scumbags

The fact he is going to crown court and the facts of his crimes are freely available tells thinking people that the CPS have evidence. Both my father and mother in law have had money taken from them by door step muggers who demanded money for work they had not done. If he has done similar then he needs locking away from old people for their safety

A women took 54k from Santander bank from 3 elderly people and only got 30 months and will do half of that. Better than working. They should clamp down big style on fraud. And nothing at all has to be paid back!!!!

Sarah, my Nan was targeted by fraudsters, twice within as many months, within 2 months of the last incident she had a massive stroke and died 4 months later. I cared for her until she died, watching her diminish from a once strong and proud woman into a shell of a person. Fraud doesn't just end with some stealing money. Those bastards killed my nan due to their actions and left us, her family, devastated. Sentences should be a hell of a lot stricter, not a slap on the wrist.
